ELLIS Alicante joins Partnership on AI to advance Artificial Intelligence for Social Good

La Fundación ELLIS Alicante se convierte en la primera organización de investigación española en formar parte de esta alianza internacional.

ELLIS Alicante se convierte en la primera unidad de la red europea ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) en integrarse en PAI, contribuyendo a reforzar la presencia de la investigación europea en los debates internacionales sobre el desarrollo de una IA responsable.

ELLIS Alicante se integra como nuevo miembro del Partnership on AI (PAI), una organización global sin ánimo de lucro que reúne a entidades académicas, organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro, empresas y medios de comunicación de todo el mundo para promover una Inteligencia Artificial responsable, segura y para el Bien Social.

With this step, ELLIS Alicante becomes the first Spanish research organisation and the first unit of the European ELLIS network to be part of Partnership on AI, reinforcing the presence of European research in international debates on the development and use of responsible Artificial Intelligence.

Partnership on AI was founded in 2016 by leading technology companies including Amazon, Meta, Google, DeepMind, IBM, and Microsoft, and today brings together more than 140 member organisations across 16 countries. Among them are renowned institutions such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Alan Turing Institute, the MIT Media Lab, and the BBC.

PAI advances its mission through active collaboration among its members, organising international meetings and developing guidelines, best practices, recommendations, and technical reports to guide the responsible development of Artificial Intelligence.

ELLIS Alicante was established in 2020 with the support and funding of the Generalitat Valenciana (Conselleria de Industria, Turismo, Innovación y Comercio). ELLIS Alicante, with its focus on ethical, responsible, and socially beneficial Artificial Intelligence—of utmost relevance today—is part of the Valencian Artificial Intelligence Strategy, published in 2019. ELLIS Alicante is part of ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems - www.ellis.eu), the European network of research excellence in Artificial Intelligence. It is the first Spanish unit to be part of ELLIS and the only one created from scratch as an independent private research foundation with a public–private funding model, including annual support from the Generalitat Valenciana.
